Who Cares?

Aug 3, 2025    Shane Freeman

What are you passionate about? In the opening chapter of Nehemiah, we learn that he is passionate about God’s plan and His people. Because he cared so deeply, he was compelled to action, which made him one of the great heroes of our faith. Are you this concerned for the work of God and your fellow believers? Are you known for the love you have for your church family? Sadly, many people today have other passions. If you care more about your favorite sports team than the proclamation of the Gospel, your passions are misplaced. If you’re more committed to your job, or family, or hobbies (worldly things), than you are to the mission of God (eternal things), your passions are sinful. If you’re more familiar with politics, athletic statistics, famous actors or performers, than you are the Scriptures and the needs of your fellow church members, your passions are unholy. If you greedily spend your time, talents, and treasures on yourself rather than practicing sacrificial generosity with what God has blessed you with, your passions are selfish. It is time to repent and change course! In what ways do you need to redirect your passions starting this week and continuing for the rest of your life? Are you learning to grieve, pray, and trust like Nehemiah for the pursuit of God’s glory and the provision of His people?
