THE PAINFUL PRICE OF PRIDE

Isaiah 39

Hezekiah is most known for being one the “good” kings of Judah. For the most part, “he did right in the sight of the LORD,” much like his ancestor King David had done (2 Chronicles 29:1-2). He led God’s people in spiritual revival and displayed great trust in the Lord throughout much of His reign, but at times his faith was short-sighted. The narrative of Isaiah 39 recounts a time when Hezekiah’s pride had tragic results, giving us a prophetic prelude to Judah’s destruction and consequent captivity in Babylon.

·      How does pride sometimes blind us to the potential consequences of our actions?

·      In what areas of your life do you struggle with seeking recognition or approval from others rather than trusting and glorifying God?

·      In what ways can you develop a habit of acknowledging God as the source of all your blessings?

·      How can you be more intentional in seeking God’s guidance for your life decisions?

·      Will you strive to develop a more “multigenerational vision” for your life choices? (Psalm 78:2-7)
